Sometimes animals get trapped in places they shouldn’t be, and need a little help from humans to get them to safety.
So it’s always heartwarming to see people step out of the box
to help a creature in need. Such was the case recently, when a man stopped a train to save the life of a turtle.
Serhat Topal is a Turkish streetcar driver. He was on his usual route when he noticed something peculiar on the tracks: a turtle.
“It was a turtle trying to cross the tracks to the countryside, but it was stuck,” Serhat told The Dodo. “I think it was scared.”
Then, Serhat did something exceptional: he stopped the train, got off and did everything he could to help the turtle.
He grabbed the animal, saving it from being crushed on the track by oncoming trains, and lifted it over the fence to safety.
Serhat reported that the turtle appeared to be in good health and was happily walking away after reaching the other side.
It was the right thing to do, but anyone who has ever taken the train knows that passengers don’t always appreciate an unexpected delay.
